In 1975 R H Irving Construction was established in Carlisle as a small independent groundworks firm. One of our first contracts was helping to complete the new Manchester Airport development.

Our core speciality has always been civil engineering and groundworks and we remain a trusted contractor and subcontractor on leading independent housebuilding and public sector projects. Over the years we have worked on some of the major building and engineering projects in Cumbria, including major housing developments, urban regeneration schemes, trunk road improvements, cycleways, bridge strengthening and riverbank stabilisation.

In recent years, however, we have diversified our base of operations to meet the changing industrial requirements and climate of the 21st century. Recent projects include the construction of modern garden centres in Cumbria, North Yorkshire and Lancashire, environmental work and major landscaping.

Today, from our headquarters in Longtown, we have more than 80 employees and sub-contractors working on projects across the North of England and South West Scotland. Several of our staff have been with us since the early days and we have established a long-term reputation for reliability and for bringing projects in on time and on budget.

Our sister company R H Irving Industrials, established in 2002, is now one of the leading installers of security systems in the UK.
