The company started trading as a small business in 1975, acting as a subcontractor mainly to John Laing Construction on their major projects (e.g. Manchester airport, Pipeline and Drainage Schemes).
In 1985 RH Irving Construction started carrying out minor works as a main contractor to Cumbria County Council, and projects included new sewers, drainage and highway work. In 1988 they acted as main contractors to Carlisle City Council on road improvements and about the same time branched out into constructing roads and sewers for housing developments (e.g. Hassall Homes, Russell Armer, Crowther Homes).
In March 1994, RH Irving Construction became a private limited company with shares being held by the directors. In the first year turnover exceeded £500,000. In 2007/8, turnover exceeded £6 million and in the next financial year 2008/9 we expect to achieve a £7 million turnover. The company is financially stable with minimal debt and has an excellent relationship with its bankers.
