As advised by Action Fraud, I am saddened to report that over the past few weeks R H Irving Construction Ltd have been the victims of identity fraud. Individual/s, calling themselves Bob, are using the Company name and credit-worthiness to obtain trade credit accounts and subsequently goods/materials in our name.
We should make it clear that this is relatively outwith our control, however damaging to our reputation. We have become aware of in excess of 40 companies who have been targeted to supply goods/materials via this fraudulent operation. We very much feel sympathy for those companies affected and this operation has been reported to the authorises by ourselves and many of these unfortunate suppliers. We are intercepting what we can as we become aware, but much is happening without our knowledge, thanks to modern technology and the use of e.mail to submit trade credit applications.
If there is something we can advise on the back of this, it is that secondary checks need to be carried out. The person using our identity is communicating with suppliers via a similar e.mail address to ours and a telephone number with a local dialling code, however if these details had been verified via our website or social media pages, then a discrepancy would have been noted. Those who have done so have contacted us and spoken with someone to clarify and have avoided any losses.
These people seem well-versed and plausible – we doubt we will be the last company whose identity they use to obtain goods fraudulently, so please take this as a warning and contact the finance team if you are not sure who you are dealing with!
If you have any concerns please contact ourselves, or think if you may have been a victim of such fraud, then please contact Action Fraud via; http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/ or telephone 0300 123 2040.
